Oneechan
Privacy policy
Last updated:
Oneechan collects nothing about you. There is no analytics, no crash reporting, no account, no advertising identifier and no tracking of any kind. Nothing you do in the app is reported to us. The app talks to the sites your extensions use, to the services you sign in to, and to a few others described below.
What Oneechan is
Oneechan is a manga reader. It ships with no extensions and no extension repositories. You add the repositories you choose, install extensions from them, and those extensions fetch titles and pages from their sites. We do not run, host or moderate any of those sites, and their content is governed by their own rules and policies.
Information we collect
None. Oneechan contains no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, no advertising framework and no third-party tracking library. It does not ask for an account and does not read your advertising identifier. It has no server of ours to report to.
What stays on your device
Everything Oneechan remembers is stored locally:
- Your library, categories, notes and custom covers
- Reading progress, bookmarks and history
- Reading statistics, worked out from your history
- Downloaded chapters and cached pages and covers
- Extension repositories, installed extensions and their settings
- Saved searches and feeds
- Every app setting
Incognito mode stops the reader from recording progress and history while it is on.
Deleting the app deletes all of it, except backups and synced data you chose to keep in iCloud (see below).
What leaves your device
Extensions and repositories. When you add a repository, Oneechan downloads its list of extensions and the extensions you install, from the address you gave. When you browse or read, your extensions fetch pages and images from the sites they are written for. Those sites see your IP address and the usual details any browser sends, and their policies apply, not ours. Local network servers you set up, such as Komga, Kavita or Suwayomi, are reached the same way.
Repository icons. For the repositories you add, Oneechan fetches the owner’s picture from github.com and the site’s icon, without cookies.
Recommendations. On a title’s page, Oneechan can suggest related titles. To do that it sends the title’s name to AniList (graphql.anilist.co), and, for MangaDex titles, the MangaDex id to MangaDex (api.mangadex.org). Where the app includes a MyAnimeList key, it asks MyAnimeList (api.myanimelist.net) too. Nothing else is sent, and you can turn this off with Show recommendations in the library settings.
Cookies. Sites can set cookies, as they would in a browser. They are stored on your device and sent back only to the site that set them. When a site is behind a Cloudflare check, Oneechan opens it in a web view so the check can pass, and keeps the cookie it gets. You can delete every cookie at any time in More → Data and storage → Clear cookies.
Trackers
If you sign in to MyAnimeList, Kitsu or MangaUpdates, your username and password go only to that service, and Oneechan keeps the session it gets back in the iOS Keychain, on this device only. It then sends your reading progress for the titles you link to that service, and nothing else. Komga, Kavita and Suwayomi servers are reached at the address you give, with the credentials you enter for them. Signing out removes the session.
iCloud
Sync is off until you turn it on. Then your library, progress, history, categories, tracker links (not sign-ins), saved searches, repositories and some settings are kept in your private iCloud database, which only your Apple account can read. Apple holds that data under its own privacy policy; we never see it. Downloads and cached pages sync only if you turn that on too. You can delete the iCloud copy at any time from the sync settings.
Backups are files on your device, in Files → On My iPhone → Oneechan → Backups, or in iCloud Drive if you choose that. They carry your library, history, tracking, repositories, saved searches and settings, but not tracker sign-ins. Where a backup goes from there is up to you.
Permissions
- Face ID / Touch ID: optional, to lock the app. The check happens on the device and Oneechan never sees anything biometric.
- Local network: asked for only when you connect to a server on your own network.
- Notifications: optional, for new chapters in your library. They are scheduled on your device. With iCloud sync on, iCloud sends silent updates so your devices stay in step; they show nothing.
- Background refresh: optional, so your library can be checked for new chapters while the app is closed.
Oneechan does not ask for access to your photo library. Choosing a custom cover uses the system picker, which shares only the picture you pick, and saving a page goes through the share sheet.
Children
Oneechan is not intended for children. Extensions for adult content stay hidden until you turn them on and confirm that you are 18 or older, but extensions can be marked wrongly, and what they show comes from their sites, not from us.
This website
manga.neechan.pro is a static website. It has no analytics, no advertising and no account. It is served by Cloudflare, which handles the requests needed to deliver its pages, as any web host does.
It stores two things in your browser, and only after you choose them: the language you picked, as a cookie named lang so that the home page opens in it next time, and light or dark, in local storage. Neither is sent anywhere but back to this site.
The badges at the top of the home page are images from shields.io, which sees your IP address when your browser loads them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new date at the top.
